Aberdeen Hospital
New Glasgow, Nova Scotia
Opportunity:
Full-Time

The Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow is a regional hospital providing a full range of health services. There are currently two ophthalmologists on staff. One ophthalmologist is retiring at the end of 2018 and the other is reducing to three days a week and will stop surgery. The surgical ophthalmologist currently has one full day of surgery a week and this surgical time will be available for an incoming ophthalmologist.

The ophthalmology practice is located in a large suite in the hospital where the two ophthalmologists share space. Each ophthalmologist has two fully equipped examining lanes. In addition to the four examining rooms, there is a shared waiting room, separate but shared reception areas, a pre screen room (shared), and SLT, YAG & diode lasers. Rent is very reasonable and includes cleaning, electricity, maintenance and one phone line through the hospital switchboard.

Elsewhere in the hospital there is an ophthalmology unit staffed by one full time and one part-time (half-time) assistants who are both certified as Orthoptists and COMT and who both work exclusively on behalf of the ophthalmologists. In the eye unit there is a variety of equipment including a Humphrey Field Analyzer, Zeiss Cirrus OCT, Retina Camera with Fluorescein capability and a minor surgical suite.

The retiring ophthalmologist is looking for someone to take over his patients. He personally owns the equipment in his two examining rooms and he is interested in potentially giving the equipment away or disposing of it at a very reasonable price. The lasers, OCT, and all other equipment is owned and maintained by the hospital for the exclusive use of the ophthalmologists.

Start date is flexible but would preferably be at the end of 2018, however for summer of 2019 is possible.

The OR has a new Zeiss microscope, an Alcon phaco machine and an outstanding surgical support staff.

The Ophthalmologist should be certified or eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) and must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
