The Eastern Zone has an opportunity for a full time Respirologist or a General Internist with interests in Respirology. Based in Antigonish, the internal medicine group currently includes a gastroenterologist, three general internists and has had a well-established respirology presence.  Inpatient call is equally shared and includes coverage of a 6-bed ICU. St. Martha's Regional Hospital. Specialists enjoy collegial relationships with family physicians who often cover their own patients in hospital and with the local complement of specialists including an extremely supportive radiology department. The hospital has had a presence in the community for over 100 years and has a strong reputation for compassionate care, concern for the vulnerable, and dedication to truly doing what is best for the patient – even when creative solutions are needed.

Respirology Highlights:
The outpatient respirology catchment area includes referrals from Truro to Inverness, and outreach clinics are at the discretion of the specialist.  Services include bronchoscopy, pulmonary function test and sleep study interpretation. Collaboration with the thoracic surgery team facilitates work-up and management of lung cancer; and the practice has historically included a clinical focus on COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, and cancer. Participation in the internal medicine call schedule is expected, and teaching of medical students and/or residents is at the discretion of the physician.
Payment is fee-for-service, plus call stipends and incentives as per the Master Agreement of Nova Scotia. Clinic space is available in continuity with the hospital at low cost, with physicians having autonomous outpatient practice according to the schedule of their choice. 

Candidates must be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and be eligible to be licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.  Support is available for site visits and relocation.
