St. Martha’s Regional Hospital was founded in 1906 by the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha. The hospital is an acute care facility providing a range of primary and secondary services through in-patient, outpatient, and satellite clinics. With more than 60 physicians practicing in a variety of medical specialties and sub-specialties, St. Martha’s serves a population of nearly 40,000 from Antigonish, Guysborough, and surrounding communities.
With approximately 90 beds for all in-patient care, hospitalist physicians at St. Martha’s are joined by our colleagues in family medicine, internal medicine (general and subspecialty, who cover our 6 bed ICU), emergency medicine, geriatrics, general surgery, psychiatry, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, anesthesia, radiology (U/S, CT, MRI, ECHO), palliative care and visiting oncology and neurology. Community based care is further supported by a men’s and women’s health center, chronic pain clinic, methadone clinic, walk-in clinic, and youth clinic at the local high school. Physicians and all staff at St. Martha’s, both historically and today, take great pride in working to provide high quality care to our patients and place strong value in collegiality in the workplace. We have the most active cross-specialty, accredited CME program in the province and host regular medical staff social events.
