The collegial team is comprised of seven full-time physicians, one nurse practitioner, family practice nurse, addiction and mental health counselor, clinic manager and administrative assistants. The team meets regularly for CMEs and to collaborate on challenging clinical cases. Opportunity exists to work as a preceptor with Dalhousie University medical students and residents. EMR is Med Access. Overhead is relatively low, around 20%. Each provider offers same day appointments one day a week for all patients of our clinic. Compensation is through an Alternate Payment Plan.

The clinic is located next to the 55-bed Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital (FMH). Physicians are responsible for as many as 0-6 inpatients at one given time, located within any of the following hospital units: restorative care rehab, alternate level of care unit, medical unit and Veteran’s LTC unit. Call for inpatients is 1 in every 7 weeks and call stipend to be paid in addition to the salary. There is an Emergency Department at FMH and ambulatory care specialty clinics such as plastic surgery, general surgery, urology, ENT, gastroenterology, respirology, geriatrics, and gynecology. FMH also has multiple outpatient clinics including the asthma/COPD clinic, diabetic education centre, physiotherapy, and ambulatory care clinic. As a result, primary care providers in Lunenburg have a close bond with many of the specialists and allied health professionals.

Lunenburg is a beautiful Town (UNESCO World Heritage Site) with affordable housing, multiple child care options, new P-9 school, gyms, swimming pools, and weekly farmers’ market in addition to being minutes to beaches, trails, lakes and oceans. The Town has many other amenities that a larger center can offer, without the drawbacks of a congested city. Lunenburg has a diverse array of artistic offerings including visual art, drama and musical events as well as musical and art schools.

Candidates must be eligible for certification by Canadian College of Family Physicians and must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.

Support is available for a site visit and relocation.
