The Internal Medicine Group at Yarmouth Regional Hospital (YRH) is seeking an additional full-time General Internal Medicine physician to join their group. Subspecialties currently include General Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, Respirology and Nephrology. YRH, with 100 inpatient beds, offers echocardiography, exercise stress testing with nuclear imaging and pharmacologic stress testing, pacemaker follow up, endoscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy), bronchoscopy, PFTs, Sleep studies, peritoneal dialysis, and hemodialysis (acute and chronic). Diagnostic imaging modalities include General imaging, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, CT scanning, and MRI. The ICU has its own portable ultrasound machine. There is a Cardiac Rehab Clinic managed by a Nurse and physiotherapist in collaboration with Internal Medicine Physicians. Traveling IM clinics to small communities in the Western Zone, particularly Digby and Shelburne, provide outreach services.

YRH is a community site for the Core Internal Medicine program at Dalhousie University with approximately 4-5 residents per year. In addition, a fellowship program for the R4 and R5 fellows started in July 2019, which provides two fellows per year full-time.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the call schedule for IM, weekly coverage for ICU and IM hospitalist, as well as provide outpatient care appropriate to their subspecialty. They will also be expected to participate in teaching both family medicine and internal medicine residents and fellows.

Yarmouth is located at the southwestern-most tip of Nova Scotia, serving a population of approximately 60,000 in three counties. Affordable housing is available on stunning ocean and lake-frontage properties. Yarmouth is the recreational, entertainment and shopping hub of the southwest area. There is so much to enjoy about the Southwestern end of Nova Scotia, including a unique and storied Acadian French history and beaches that take your breath away!

Yarmouth is also connected to the United States through an international ferry service that makes cross border adventures possible with ease. The enviable combination of urban amenities and rural natural beauty offers an excellent quality of life for the people who live here. Nova Scotia offers the medical professional opportunities found in larger cities while maintaining a work-life balance in livable, walkable, and affordable communities.

Compensation is fee for service with flexible vacation time. In addition, specialists receive call stipends and other incentives as available through the Master Agreement of Nova Scotia.

Candidates must be a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or eligible to take the Fellowship Exam in Internal Medicine. Must hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
