About This Opportunity

Nova Scotia Health is seeking expressions of interest for the role of Department Head for Maternal/Child in the Eastern Zone. Reporting to the Zone Medical Executive Director, the Department Head is responsible for the operations of the Maternal/Child Medical staff, and the scheduling of shifts. The role provides leadership to the Maternal/Child site leads, as well as performance management, and physician resource planning for members of the department. 

About the Department of Maternal/Child

  • Represents approximately 15 physicians working in Antigonish and Sydney
  • Oversees the provision of Maternal/Child services across the Eastern Zone


Role Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the operations of the Maternal/Child Medical staff in the Eastern Zone
  • Works with Maternal/Child Site Leads to develop a schedule of physicians to ensure coverage of Maternal/Child coverage and appropriate medical administration throughout the zone
  • Provides leadership to the Maternal/Child site leads as well as performance management and physician resource planning for members of the department

Expected Hours

  • part-time position 


MD (with College Certification in Gynecology & Obstetrics or Pediatrics) with evidence of past and ongoing leadership training.
