About the Opportunity

Nova Scotia Health is seeking expressions of interest for the role of Department Head (DH) for Diagnostic Imaging (DI) in the Western Zone. 
Reporting to the Zone Medical Executive Director, the DH for DI is responsible for the operations of the DI Medical staff in the Zone, provides strategic and operational planning and service leadership in collaboration with relevant administrative Department leaders, and provides leadership to the DI site leads as well as performance management and physician resource planning for members of the department. The DH works with DI Site Leads to develop a schedule of physicians to ensure coverage of DI Departments and appropriate medical administration throughout the zone. 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that department members are compliant with the Bylaws and Rules and regulations of the NSHA;
  • Hold regular department meetings and provide the Zone Medical Executive Director with meeting minutes;
  • Attend relevant committee meetings as assigned by the Medical Executive Director;
  • Provide co-leadership along with the Zone administrative director of the zone department for strategic and operational planning and budgeting;
  • Works with Specialty Site Leads to ensure service continuity is maintained through Department
  • scheduling practices, including but not limited to vacation requests, on-call scheduling, and locum
  • utilization;
  • Participate in the monitoring of standards, quality, and utilization of resources of the department in the zone;
  • Provide Performance management for all department members;
  • Provide complaint and discipline management for department members;
  • Coordinate medical students and residents in the Zone;
  • Supports the research agenda within the department;
  • Participate in any clinical services planning for the Zone/NSHA;
  • Leads recruitment/retention for the department for the Zone;
  • Ensures that new hire and onboarding processes are completed with support from the Specialty Site
  • Lead as required;
  • Organize, along with Organization Performance, regular IMMR for the Department;
  • Participate in Leadership development. 
     

Eligibility

  • MD licensed in Nova Scotia and privileged with Nova Scotia Health. 
  • Evidence of past and ongoing leadership training.
